What a weekend! After a hit or miss forecast, we were greeted by warm weather and an eager group of bike riders. Kicking off the clinic was a short discussion regarding each riders strengths and weaknesses, as well as selection of equipment and other technical details.
We then struck out for the Richmond Skills Park on Belle Island, which offers great features to work on critical trail skills. Prior to riding, some basic off the bike warm-up was covered including basic balance drills to cue in the bodies built in proprioception. You can checkout all some of the skills video here. After two solid hours of skills, we head back for lunch and discussion, before striking back out to Forest Hill Park to apply those skills on a 90 min MTB ride. Day 1 wrapped up with so post ride festivities at Station 2 in Richmond.
Day 2 of the clinic kicked up with a pre-ride discussion at Pocahontas State Park, near Richmond. Temperatures hovered near 60 early in the ride and climber to near 70 by noon. Trail conditions were fantastic and clinic goers were able to apply all the skills from saturday on fast single track with climbing, descending and log hops. After some stop and go discussion, we opened it up for some hot laps and pushed the limit to our skills. Wrapping up around 1 pm, there was time for final discussion, autographs and then more riding.
Special Thanks to Jeremiah Bishop for lending is awesome experience to the clinic, as well as sponsors Stan’s No Tubes, Honey Stinger, and Cannondale.
